My Favorite Immune Boosters (Recipe Included!)

Ahh, fall… “Pumpkin spice” season, sore throat season, and for me, it's immunity booster season as I do everything I can to try not to get sick!

Although getting a little sick sometimes is totally normal, there are always a few precautions we can take to avoid utter catastrophe.

3 Immune Boosters During Cold and Flu Season:

1. Slow Down 

Sounds simple, but it’s the #1 thing we can do to protect ourselves when we feel like we’re getting sick. When I feel like I might catch something, instead of just powering through, I SLOW DOWN first.

We’re all in a rush and have busy schedules so it’s hard to think about taking a pre-sick day before we actually get sick— but trust me, this precautionary measure can go a long way.

Your immune system works a lot of its magic during the day to protect your body and needs to rest and cleanse itself at night. If you don’t give it that proper rest, it won’t be as strong as it needs to be during the day to protect your body. 

So taking a few days to really SLOW down— and I mean cancel plans, can save you a lot of time (and your precious health) in the long run. 

Remember— sometimes saying NO to others is saying YES to ourselves!

2. Drink More Water

Our bodies are 65% water. So drinking plenty of fresh water can help flush out any stagnant or sickness-breeding molecules that are forming in the body.

Whenever I feel like I’m at risk for getting sick, I make sure I have my water bottle near me (available HERE) at all times and try to fill it and drink at least 3-4 times per day. 

A great way to begin your day (since you might forget once your day gets going) is to drink a full glass of water first thing in the morning. 

3. Oregano

Oregano is such a common herb, but absolutely magical when it comes to boosting your immune system and protecting your body against sickness. Who knew!

Below is a link to my favorite immune-boosting Fall Recipe: Leafy Lentils. Not only is it healthy & super delicious, it only takes 15 MINUTES to make! You can download it, print it out, and add it to your recipe book. This has been my go-to all season long. It’s hearty and nourishing, and it’s also plant-based/vegetarian! (Even if you’re not vegetarian, it’s one of those meals that are so filling, you won’t even miss the meat).

Here’s How I Boost My Immunity With Oregano:

 

  •  I take Oregano capsules orally, or I drink one TINY drop of therapeutic-grade Oregano essential oil in a LARGE glass of water, 1-2 times per day. 

 

  • I fill my essential oil diffuser with water and 6-8 drops of Oregano essential oil and have it going throughout my bedroom when I am sleeping, and I even have it follow me into my office when I’m working.
